Phlebotomist

Obtains various venous, arterial, and capillary blood samples from newborn through geriatric patients for laboratory testing, assuring proper identification and labeling; maintains control of laboratory requisitions and computer generated orders received from various nursing units; delivers reports to nursing units; performs sweat tests, bleeding times, collects proper samples for clotting times; processes outpatients; operates automated slide stainer; participates in proper inventory control; cleans glassware; assists secretaries when time permits, and performs other pertinent duties as assigned. High school graduate or equivalent; prefer previous phlebotomy and lab experience; must possess good organizational skills; ability to deal effectively with the public; ability to handle stressful situations inherent to collection and dispatch of urgent medical laboratory testing results; must have sufficient manual dexterity to be able to manipulate blood drawing devices and collect specimens. Frequent walking, standing, and/or sitting, lifting, bending, stooping, or reaching; must be able to distinguish appropriate colors.
